1. Coil loading: A heavy, wide master coil is loaded onto a decoiler, a machine that holds the coil and uses a hydraulic expandable mandrel to grip its inner diameter.
2. Uncoiling and leveling: The decoiler unrolls the material at a controlled speed and feeds it into the slitting machine. The material often passes through leveling rollers to flatten any surface imperfections or distortions.
3. Slitting: The flattened material is threaded through the slitting head, which is equipped with a customized setup of sharp, circular rotary blades. These knives, controlled by an automated system, cut the wide material lengthwise into multiple narrower strips, or "mults," with high precision.
